Sloan's journey was told to us by her mother.

Sloan was our fourth baby so we felt prepared for the delivery. Her delivery was fast and easy like I had experienced in the past. I immediately noticed she had a harder time being soothed and wasn’t nursing like she should have been but we figured all babies can be different. Luckily an observant nurse in the nursery noticed that Sloan’s breathing was not normal and sent her to the NICU to be looked at. After several hours a doctor came and let us know that Sloan had a bacterial infection called Streptococcus Bovis that was making her severely sick. They started her on a cocktail of antibiotics and we were told that she would have to stay for a couple days. Our first visit to see her in the NICU was heartbreaking, going from seeing what you thought was a healthy baby to all the sudden seeing a baby with an IV, feeding tube, tons of wires, and not being able to hold her. Then we had to leave the hospital and leave our baby behind.
Unfortunately Sloan's infection was not responding to the medication and she had to be put on penicillin which was a mandatory 10 day stay in the NICU. It doesn't matter if your baby has to stay one day or 100 days in the NICU, every single day is hard. But I will never forget the love that was shown for our baby Sloan during her 14 day stay. I remember coming in to see her and the nurses had decorated her bed with a name tag, a handmade quilt, a stuffed animal, and a mini Minky blanket. It's so heartwarming to know that so many people are reaching out to comfort your baby. We were so excited to finally receive that call to come take home our baby. I cried the whole way to the hospital because I was so happy but also so sad for the many parents that never get to take their baby home. It was definitely bittersweet. Sloan is now a happy and healthy two year old!! 💗💗💗
